The ‘New Narrative for Europe’ is an initiative of the European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, Vice-President Viviane Reding and Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou. It is an open invitation to civil society and especially the people of culture, art, thought, and sciences, to develop a dialogue on the Europe of today and a vision for the Europe of tomorrow, a «more and better Europe.» A Europe that shares democratic values , cultural diversity, social solidarity, and creativity. The social and economic challenges that Europe is facing these last years, necessitates reengagement with the common values underlying the European project. Returning to the common bonds, we can reformulate the concept of European integration and build a positive message for the future. In this effort, which wants to emphasize that Europe is not only economic cooperation between EU Member States, culture can play a key role. Especially artists and intellectuals, people of thought and science are invited to have a say and to contribute actively to the development of a common European vision.

The inaugural event was held in April 2013 in Brussels. Parallel events take place in different European countries in order to broaden participation in the dialogue between European citizens, artists and people of culture, intellect and science.

The initiative will culminate with the presentation of a «European Manifesto» early next year.

The debate is open to all citizens through the portal :
